"Dreaded Passion" was created first through a drawing. I wanted to create something that looked like me and my brother (we both have dreads) and I also wanted to incorporate something that I just can't seem to shake; music.

"Melanin" was my first painting and it was created out of curiosity. I wanted to see the different shades of brown I could come up with. And I love how it turned out because there are so many different shades of brown in this world. They all need to be embraced.

Both "free" and "wrapped" speaks to a different side of any natural woman. I believe there are moments where our hair speaks to how we are feeling and who we are in a particular moment. I can feel "Free" to do as I please and speak my mind. Or I can feel "wrapped" or secure or hidden from the damages of the world.

"Tranquility" came about from just sitting listening. I had just bought these three colors and was moved to do something with them but didn't have the slightest clue as to what. So I grabbed all my material and sat at the table, listening to my my music, and I started painting. As I finished there was a peace that came over me which I knew I was finished. I asked what should it be called and "tranquility" came to mind.

"Family Structure" which I have nicknamed "crowns". There's an order I feel we've strayed away from; husband, wife, children. The husband is the head and leads his wife in a Godly manner, the wife submits to her husband, and the children there after. There is nothing wrong with putting your husband first in a marriage when he is leading with the guidance of God. Submission is not weakness but strength and leadership.

"Rhythm" started out as a piano. With my unshakable love for music, I wanted to create something with a piano and drums. I drew a picture of a guy on a piano before and wanted to recreate it on canvas but I was lead otherwise. I was frustrated with this piece because it was not going along with my original plan but I continued to listen and move with freedom and was amazed at how it came out. There is so much in this piece I could only name it "rhythm".

"Intimacy"

"Intimacy" was created while hanging out with my best friend. I took a picture with my phone just to remember the simple things which are usually the most intimate and should be the most cherished moments in life.
